Layers of Impact is a branded pop-up experience developed for Cotopaxi that translates the company's mission of sustainability, adventure, and social impact into an immersive physical environment. Designed as a temporary activation, the project explores how retail environments can move beyond transactions to create meaningful engagement and foster community connection. Organized into distinct experiential zones, the space invites visitors to learn about Cotopaxi's environmental initiatives and humanitarian efforts before transitioning into the Mas Vida experience, an interactive area centered around reflection, storytelling, and participation. Through moments such as the large llama mirror and community chalkboard asking, "What gives you more life?", the design encourages personal connection while reinforcing the brand's core values. An integrated retail zone and exterior seating area further extend the experience, transforming the pop-up into a destination that educates, inspires, and builds a sense of shared purpose.
concept
The concept for Layers of Impact draws directly from Cotopaxi's identity as a brand rooted in adventure, transparency, and purposeful action. Inspired by the idea that meaningful change is built through interconnected layers, the design translates the company's environmental initiatives, humanitarian programs, and community values into a spatial experience of discovery and revelation. Translucent materials and overlapping forms symbolize transparency and the sharing of impact, while vibrant colors reference Cotopaxi's recognizable visual language and evoke the energy and optimism associated with exploration. Through layered experiences, materials, and moments of interaction, the pop-up embodies the idea that every journey, action, and individual contribution adds another layer to a greater collective impact.
DISCOVERY
CURIOSITY
plan
The spatial organization of Layers of Impact was designed as a journey of discovery, guiding visitors through a sequence of educational, interactive, and retail experiences that progressively reveal Cotopaxi's mission and values. Semi-transparent partitions constructed from 3form Varia panels create moments of separation while maintaining visual connectivity, allowing the space to feel open, layered, and continuously unfolding. Repurposed metal grating is integrated throughout the installation as a modular framework for display, wayfinding, and spatial definition, reinforcing themes of adaptability and environmental responsibility. Together, these materials embody Cotopaxi's commitment to sustainability, transforming the pop-up into an immersive experience where materiality and storytelling work in tandem to communicate the brand's impact.
